Vancouver voice-over actress Cynthia Songe passes away

Cynthia Songe, a 58-year-old Vancouver voiceover actress, died Wednesday, May 19 of a brief illness in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

According to an article on THR.com, “Songe's deep, distinctive voice can be heard in commercials and on such TV shows and films as Clifford, Stuart Little, Ben & Izzy and Curious George.

After she graduated from UCLA, Songe became an actor, director and a member of the Ensemble Studio Theater. But, it was only after Songe attended a voiceover class with Susan Blu, an acclaimed American voice actress and director, did Songe discover her true calling.

The THR.com article goes on to say that, “Working with Blu… Songe helped her students work toward successful voiceover careers, with a focus on the development of what she called ‘the signature voice.’ Songe and Blu wrote the 2006 manual Word of Mouth: A Guide to Voiceover Excellence, Volume 3.

Songe is survived by Blu, her spouse; her sister, Susan Songey; nephew Chris Jackowchik and his wife Ginger; and grand niece and grand nephew Ellie and Will.

The THR.com article concludes by stating that, “In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Woods Humane Society in San Luis Obispo, Calif.”
