Aaliyah is remembered by celebrities and fans

Wednesday marked the ninth anniversary of talented R&B singer Aaliyah’s death. In 2001, she was killed in a plane crash at age 22 in the Bahamas after filming her "Rock the Boat" music video.

Many celebrities and fans posted messages on Twitter Wednesday about the influence the late hit-maker had on music and how much she is missed.

"Today is the day that the R&B Angel Aaliyah passed on," singer and song-writer Ne-Yo tweeted. "RT if you loved her the way I did!!WE MISS YOU BABYGIRL!!!!"

Singer Keri Hilson wrote, "#ripAaliyah I feel like you were a sister I've nvr had the pleasure of meeting. No one will ever replace your shine, nor should one try."

"Aaliyah was an inspiration," Midwestern-born recording artist, Janelle Monáe, posted on her Twitter page. "Always kept me & my friends in [Kansas City] out of trouble. Too busy in the mirror doing her 'swoop' bang & dance moves.:)"

Aaliyah’s debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number, was released in 1994 when she was 15 years old. One in a Million was released in 1996 and her final album, Aaliyah, was released in 2001.

Aside from her singing career, Aaliyah starred in the films Romeo Must Die in 2000 and Queen of the Damned, which was released in 2002. In 2000, Her single, "Try Again," from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack, won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.

"There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of [Aaliyah] or watch a video or play her music," Aaliyah’s good friend, rapper Missy Elliot, said in a recent interview with MTV. "I miss her every day."
