George Clooney confirms that he will never run for president

George Clooney is busy in Venice this week promoting his new film The Ides Of March, which premiered today at the Venice Film Festival and is one of the first legitimate Oscar contenders this year. While the film revolves around a Democratic presidential candidate, Clooney revealed at a press conference that he will not be playing that role in real life anytime soon.

“As for running for president, look, there's a guy in office right now who is smarter than almost anyone you know, who's nicer and who has more compassion than almost anyone you know. And he's having an almost impossible time governing. Why would anybody volunteer for that job?” he said, according to the Associated Press.

According to the Telegraph, Clooney added that he likes being in the movie business and would not be able to take a job that actually impacts people’s lives. He made it quite clear that he will not be the Ronald Reagan of the Democratic party. “Films don’t hurt people. They just get badly reviewed sometimes.”

Clooney has been active in politics in the past, though. During the 2008 Presidential race, he campaigned for President Obama.

The Ides of March is scheduled to reach theaters in the US on Oct. 14 and stars Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti.
