News Corp. may turn Fox Soccer into second FX channel

News Corp. is reportedly considering splitting FX into two channels with the new channel focusing more on comedy.

According to The Huffington Post, FX will continue to air dramas like Justified and American Horror Story but the new channel, possibly titled FX2 or FXX, could become the new home for comedies like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

The second FX channel would replace Fox Soccer, reports the Los Angeles Times. But News Corp. will also face the challenge of convincing cable and satellite distributors to let it rebrand the channel, especially since many big pay-TV distributors are looking to cut costs and drop under-performing channels.

"We are constantly evaluating our programming offerings and this is just one notion we have considered over the past year or so," a representative for Fox said in an email statement to The Huffington Post.

News Corp. is planning on having its Speed channel become a national sports network later this year as well, but all of these plans are still in the preliminary stages and are not definite.
