Colin Firth in talks for Matthew Vaughn’s ‘The Secret Service’

Colin Firth is reportedly in talks to do his first comic book film, which would be Matthew Vaughn’s The Secret Service.

According to The Wrap, the Latino Review broke the news, which was later confirmed at The Wrap and at THR.

The Secret Service is based on a graphic novel written by Mark Millar (Kick Ass) and drawn by Dave Gibbons (Watchmen). 20th Century Fox picked up the project last month and will release the film on Nov. 14, 2014. Vaughn has co-written the script with Jane Goldman.

The book tells the story of a youth whose uncle, a veteran spy, signs him up for a spy school that develops 007-type agents. Firth would play the uncle if he signs on. “This is James Bond meets My Fair Lady,” Millar told THR last year.

The Secret Service will be Vaughn’s follow-up to X-Men: First Class. He is producing that film’s sequel, Days of Future Past and the upcoming Kick-Ass 2.

As for Firth, he won an Oscar for The King’s Speech and currently stars in Arthur Newman. His next film is Devil's Knot, about the West Memphis 3.
