Top 10 Most Inspiring Teachers Movies

3 – Freedom Writers

Based off the book The Freedom Writers Diary by the signature character of this tale, this film showcases the determination and personal-relation of a California teacher who steps outside the realm of her comfort zone to teach at a self-segregating Los Angeles high school, once prominent for its academic achievements, now(then) placed on an integration plan for the student body known as “unteachables.” As the classic white citizen walks into a multiracial classroom setting, Hilary Swank delivers a motivational, mind-blowing performance in a story that merges together different classes of different statuses and backgrounds into one family community through the use of writing. In the film, she hands out journals to all of her students and encourages them to physically write out their inner thoughts, and much to her surprise they leave them with her to read, allowing her an inside look of the inner workings of these troubled teenagers, entrusting her to subconsciously implement the change in their lives they never thought or ever dreamed they could ever do. This 2007 feature film inspires all teachers and mentors to dig into the very soul of what it means to be human in this segregating society, and to carefully tweak the essence of a teenager’s heart before they fall into the unfortunate situation that society expects them to.
