‘Transformers 4’: Michael Bay shows off new autobots

Transformers 4 is starting to feel like a reboot of the hugely successful franchise directed by Michael Bay. Not only will it have an all-new human cast, but Bay showed off some images of the new autobots as well.

In a high resolution gallery posted on MichaelBay.com, the director showed the new version of Bumblebee, made using a customized 1967 Camaro SS. Other images showed off the C7 Corvette Stingray, based on a 2014 model, a Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse that’s worth over $2.4 million, and the familiar Optimus Prime truck.

According to MTV News, a source for JoBlo.com suggested that the C7 is a Slingshot, while the Bugatti is a newer character named Drift.

Drift had only recently debuted in the IDW comic book series. As for Slingshot, he has previously been an airplane and a member of the Aerialbots, but he didn’t appear in 2009’s Revenge of the Fallen.

While Transformers 4 will have an all-new male cast, Bay had told the LA Times last summer that it isn’t really meant to be a reboot like the enw Spider-Man movies. The first three films are still part of the continuity.

The human cast so far includes Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Sophia Myles and Kelsey Grammer. The Wrap reported this week that comedian T.J. Miller will also have a role.

Transformers 4 is scheduled for June 27, 2014.
