'Blue is the Warmest Color' wins top award at Cannes

At the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the winner of the top award went to Blue is The Warmest Color, directed by Abdellatif Kechiche.

According to USA Today, Steven Spielberg sat among a nine member jury to judge the films. There seemed to be no apparent front-runner at this year’s festival.

The jury also gave the prestigious Palme d’Or to not only the director, but the two stars Adele Exarchopoulos and Lea Seydoux, reported Yahoo News.

The film, according to Huffington Post, tells the story of young lesbian lovers in the midst of a fiery romance.

The Wrap said the film is the first LGBT-themed movie as well as most sexually explicit to win the top prize.

With a ten-minute sex scene, Blue had audiences members curious but also walking out around the ninth minute, reported Vulture.

Blue wasn’t the only film at Cannes to feature a gay sex scene as Behind the Candelabra, the Liberace biopic starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon, also contained explicit gay sex scenes.
