Cannes auction sends one winner into space with 'The Great Gatsby' actor Leonardo DiCaprio

A charity event at Canes brought in $1.5 million on a single bid by an unidentified participant wishing to travel into space alongside The Great Gatsby actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

LA Times reports that the charity event was held on behalf of AmFAR, a nonprofit organization devoted to researching a cure for AIDS, in Cannes. The unidentified winner will sit alongside DiCaprio in a Virgin Galactic spaceship sometime in 2014.

DiCaprio was in attendance during the auction.

Another unidentified attendee bid $2.3 million for a pair of seats no the adventure into orbit.

According to Stuff.co, Sir Richard Branson is kicked off the first ever commercial space flight with deposits starting at $200,000.
The space adventure will take 2.5 hours, but not before each passenger undergoes a three day training period to ensure the safety of all travellers.

Stuff.co notes that the Inception actor also offered a package which included two tickets to the premiere and afterparty of his upcoming film, Wolf on Wall Street
