Darius Rucker slams racist tweet, 'Is this 2013 or 1913?'

Singer Darius Rucker has taken to Twitter to respond to a racist comment by Twitter user pqkullman following his Grand Ole Opry performance over the weekend.

According to HNGN, Pqkullman tweeted at the former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman saying, “Leave country to the white folk”

Rucker responded with a blast, “ WOW. Is this 2013 or 1913?” He followed writing, “Ill take my grand ole Opry membership and leave your racism. Wow.” Rucker concluded the Twitter feud simply writing, “Gotta go to bed this has been hilarious tonight. If any hater thinks I care what u think. I don’t make music for u. So don’t listen.”

Rolling Stone reports that since retiring from the 1990s band, Rucker has gone on to make his mark in Country music selling over one million albums of his 2008 country debut album, Learn to Live.

HNGN notes that the Twitter profile that originally made the racist comment has since been pulled and new user “Taken Over” has adopted the profile in order to promote “good things and not hatred.”
