David Beckham to retire from professional soccer

On May 16th soccer fans around the world will be tearing as David Beckham has announced he will retire from soccer after this season. After scoring 127 goals and playing in three World Cups, he feels that this is ‘the right time to finish his career.’ Currently, the 38-year-old soccer star is playing for French team Paris Saint-German.

According to Hollywood Life, David said: “I’m thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level…Nothing will ever completely replace playing the game I love. However, I feel like I’m starting a new adventure and I’m genuinely excited about what lies ahead. I’m fortunate to have been given many opportunities throughout my career and now I feel it’s my time to give back.”

Confirming his retirement, USA Today, shared more about Beckham’s retirement speech.

“To this day, one of my proudest achievements is captaining my country. I knew every time I wore the Three Lions shirt, I was not only following in a long line of great players, I was also representing every fan that cared passionately about their country. I'm honored to represent England both on and off the pitch. ... I want to thank all my teammates, the great managers that I had the pleasure of learning from. I also want to thank the fans who have all supported me and given me the strength to succeed."

He is not only famous for his soccer skills but has also become a global superstar. David Beckham is the face of Armani mens wear. He holds many endorsements such as Gillette, Pepsi, and Addidas among many other companies.

He has two games left with Paris Saint German and his final game will be played on May 18.
