Demi Lovato is tired of hearing songs about 'partying and drinking and getting high'

Demi Lovato released her highly anticipated new album, Demi Tuesday. The 20-year-old singer, who already gave fans a taste of her new material prior to its release, offers a mix of pop music and personal ballads. The “Heart Attack” singer says she’ll never go back to writing music that doesn’t have any real message.

“I get sick of listening to the radio and hearing only music that's talking about partying and drinking and getting high. That's not what I do. It's not what I stand for,” she said during a Q & A with Billboard. “Maybe a couple years ago I would have loved it, but I'm not the same person I was a few years ago. Now when I listen to the radio, I can't relate to a lot of it.”

Lovato, instead, is a fan of songs by Adele or Taylor Swift, which tell stories.

“They talk about their experiences and pour it out in their songs," she added. There's a lot more to their music than just partying and going out.”

The “Give Your Heart a Break” singer is known for trying many different sounds and styles, which she experimented with on her last album, Unbroken. She admitted that much like she did with party songs on the radio, she grew tired of the songs on her album.

“I got sick of the songs. When I would play them onstage, I was just like, 'Oh my gosh, I can't play these anymore.' And I have to wonder, was that album really who I was? Was I just experimenting with sounds? I think I wanted to try something more R&B, but when I tried that, it wasn't really me. And so with this album, I'm so excited to play new music rather than getting tired of the songs.”

Good news for Lovato, her fans are just as excited to hear her new music as she is to sing it.

In an interview with MTV News she talked about the feedback she got from fans.

"They weren't expecting it at all, and that's kind of what made it so fun," she said. "The most common thing that I've heard is they love every single song on it. My goal for this album was not to put a song on the album that was just filler. A lot of times there are album fillers, and that was not my goal. I didn't put a song on the album that couldn't potentially become a single. So there's going to be a lot of singles off this album, which I'm excited about."
