Disney sets release dates for Pixar and animation projects through 2018

The Walt Disney Company has to be one of the most forward-looking studios in Hollywood, especially after today’s news that it has set release dates for its projects from the animation studio and Pixar through 2018.

The studio's slate includes eight total films. Every film will get a wide release in 3D. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the schedule follows Disney’s usual pattern of having an animated release for June and November.

There were no plot details or even titles included in the announcement, but there are four Disney Animation titles and four Pixar titles.

While they do alternate between the two studios, ComingSoon.net reports that 2017 is the one exception, since both releases that year will be from Pixar. It will only be the second year in that studio’s history that it will release two films in a single year. The studio has two films slated for 2015 - Inside Out (June 19, 2015) and Finding Dory (Nov. 25, 2015).

Pixar’s string of success has never stopped and includes its latest hit, 2012’s Brave The film won the Oscar for Best Animated feature and grossed $538.8 million. Its newest film, Monsters University, opens on June 21. Future projects also include The Good Dinosaur (May 30, 2014) and a film about the Day of the Dead.

Disney Animation has seen a recent revival, with hits like 2010’s Tangled and 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph. Its next projects are Frozen (Nov. 27) and Big Hero 6 (Nov. 7, 2014).

Here’s Disney’s schedule for 2016, 2017 and 2018:
Disney Animation - 3/4/16
Pixar - 6/17/16
Disney Animation - 11/23/16
Pixar - 6/16/17
