Ewan McGregor to reunite with Natalie Portman in ‘Jane Got A Gun’

After Bradley Cooper dropped out of Jane Got A Gun last week, it looked like Natalie Portman’s Western was in trouble again, but a few days later, the project tapped Ewan McGregor as a replacement.

Cooper, who was set to play the gang leader who goes after Portman’s wounded husband, dropped out citing a packed schedule. He had agreed to the role in April and Jude Law dropped out when director Lynne Ramsay was replaced by Gavin O’Connor. Before Law, Michael Fassbender was attached to the part.

Deadline confirmed on Monday that McGregor has taken the role. Since the villain’s part has yet to be filmed, McGregor’s late casting isn’t going to cause a production delay.

This will be a Star Wars prequel reunion now, since McGregor and Portman played two thirds of the leading trio in those films. McGregor starred as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Portman played Queen Amidala.

The cast for Jane Got A Gun includes Noah Emmerich, who plays Portman’s husband, and Joel Edgerton. Portman’s character is left to protect her farm when the gang arrives to kill her husband.

McGregor recently starred alongside Naomi Watts in The Impossible.
