Star Wars without composer John Williams sounds sacrilegious and director J.J. Abrams agrees. During a press conference for Star Trek Into Darkness in Berlin, Abrams, who was hired to direct the next Star Wars film, said that he believes Williams will score the film.
At the Berlin premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness, Abrams said that he wouldn’t mind having Williams step in for Michael Giacchino, who has been Abrams main man for music in his films, notes TrekMovie.com. Giacchino has scored Star Trek, Super 8 and even wrote music for Lost. But as a Star Wars fan, Abrams knows how important it is for Williams to score the new film.
“Again, for Star Wars, it’s very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film because he was there long before I was,” Abrams said, reports Billboard. He again stressed that the film is in the very early stages, since it isn’t expected to hit theaters until 2015.
At the moment, all that’s known about Episode VII is that Abrams is directing and Michael Arndt is writing the screenplay. It will be the first film since Disney bought Lucasfilm in October and the studio hopes to release a new film every year, with stand-alone films in between the main trilogy releases.
Meanwhile, Carrie Fisher has commented on the film again, notes Metro.co.uk. While at a convention in Calgary, she commented, “I’m glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I’m really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything.”
