Jaden Smith says he doesn’t plan on getting emancipated: He’s ‘not going anywhere’

Jaden Smith said in an interview today with Ellen DeGeneres that he doesn’t really plan on getting emancipated from his famous parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

“The thing that people don't get is that everything at his house is free,” Jaden, 14, told DeGeneres, reports The New York Daily News. “I can get anything and everything at his house so I think I'm gonna be there for 20, 30 more years.”

Jaden, who co-stars with his father in After Earth, said that the only way he gets to have his own house is if he can score a bigger hit than Will. “He says that as soon as I have a movie that's bigger than one of his movies then I have to get my own house,” Jaden said.

Will joked, “There's no reason to live in my house no more.”

The rumor that Jaden wanted to legally separate from his parents and get emancipated started Tuesday when Will was quoted as telling The Sun that Jaden has made the request himself.

“He says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh,” Will had told the tabloid. “That’s the backlash. On the other side, if kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand.”

Will said that this might have just been a joke that a reporter took too seriously. “I mean my baby boy he's never leaving me … ever,” he told DeGeneres. “No emancipation for the Smith kids.”

After Earth opens on May 31.
