LA Film Festival to host early ‘Man of Steel’ screening, plus ‘Monsters University’

Next month’s Los Angeles Film Festival has secured an early screening of Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel and added the latest Pixar film, Monsters University.

The screening of Man of Steel will take place on June 12 at 7:30 p.m., the night before the festival kicks off on June 13. It is also two days before the film’s wide release. It is the latest film incarnation of Superman and the first since 2006’s dud Superman Returns. Henry Cavill plays the Man of Steel with Zack Snyder directing.

Monsters University, a prequel to Monsters Inc., will be screened during the festival on June 18, notes The Wrap. It hits theaters two days later on June 21. John Goodman and Billy Crystal return to voice Mike and Sully.

While most of the LAFF line-up is smaller indie productions and awards contenders, organizers are open to including big Hollywood tentpoles. The LA Times notes that films like Transformers and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse have been screened during the festival. Last year, organizers picked Magic Mike.

LAFF also invited Spike Jonze for a talk about the director’s films, which include Adaptation. and Where The Wild Things Are, on June 22. They will also show scenes from his new movie Her. Another panel discussion added is Women in the Cut: A Celebration of Women Editors.

You can check out more info on the festival at LAFilmFest.com. It runs from June 13-23.
