NBC calls Carrie Underwood 'first choice' to replace Faith Hill as 'Sunday Night Football' singer

Grammy Award winning singer Carrie Underwood is set to take over for Faith Hill this September as the “Before He Cheats” crooner has been named Sunday Night Football’s new theme singer.

KoVideo reports that NBC exec agreed that the American Idol beauty was their top choice as a replacement following Hill’s announcement last month that she would no longer hold the role.

“Carrie Underwood was our first and only choice to perform the Sunday Night Football opening. She’s one of America’s most popular entertainers and the perfect fit for our show,” producer Fred Gaudelli said of their decision.

Underwood also released a statement following the news that she would be singing about “Waiting all day for Sunday Night.”

"For me, it just always seemed like something that would be fun to do. To watch Faith do it week after week, to see that hype for the game, it's something that's so cool,” she said. "I am thrilled to be a part of NBC's Sunday Night Football and am so honored they asked me. I have always loved football season, and it is so exciting to now become part of it every Sunday night!"

The new NFL season kicks off September 8.
