Rob Lowe and Ginnifer Goodwin to star in NatGeo’s ‘Killing Kennedy’

Rob Lowe has signed on to play President John F. Kennedy in NatGeo’s Killing Kennedy, an adaptation of Fox pundit Bill O’Reilly’s best-selling book.

Ginnifer Goodwin was cast as Jacqueline Kennedy. Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy The Vampire Slayer) will play Marina Oswald, the widow of Lee Harvey Oswald.

“We are thrilled to be working with Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg, three gifted artists whom have responded to this timely, authentic and entertaining material,” Howard T. Owens, president of the National Geographic Channels, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

NatGeo quickly announced plans to turn the book into a special on the eve of its premiere for Killing Lincoln, which aired in February. That special drew 3.4 million viewers.

Killing Kennedy is timed for the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination. Production starts in June, while both Lowe and Goodwin are on breaks from shooting their network shows. Lowe currently stars on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, while Goodwin stars on ABC’s Once Upon A Time.

Lowe previously narrated NatGeo’s The ’80s: The Decade That Made Us in April. He’s also done more work in television films recently, starring in Lifetime’s Prosecuting Casey Anthony and HBO’s Behind the Candelabra.

According to The Wrap, Nelson McCormick (The West Wing, ER, The Good Wife) is directing the two-hour special.

NatGeo will also be adapting O’Reilly’s Killing Jesus, which is set to be published in September.
