Ron Howard and Brian Grazer consider crowdfunding for ‘Friday Night Lights’ movie

Producers Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, who worked on the Friday Night Lights NBC series, said in a recent interview that they would be interested in using crowdfunding to make a new film to reunite the cast.

In an interview with Deadline, in which the two covered a wide range of current projects, Grazer and Howard, whose Imagine company produced the series, said that crowdfunding would be the way to go for a part of the budget.

“We made a terrific feature with Pete Berg, turned it into a terrific TV series and will now make a movie from that series,” Grazer said. “I’m not sure such a thing has been done before.”

It is true that it would be a very unique situation. Berg directed the film in 2004, which in turn inspired the critically beloved NBC series about a high school football team, the coach and his wife. Now fans are hoping that the series inspires a second film.

It’s been talked about for years, with star Connie Britton most recently telling E! News that she would “love it to happen.”

The Huffington Post notes that this isn’t the first time that crowdfunding has been mentioned for FNL. Adrianne Palicki spoke to the press while promoting G.I. Joe: Retaliation that after the Veronica Mars success, a Kickstarter project is possible.

“I think they’re starting the Kickstarter, which is insane. It’s crazy,” Palicki said. “I have multiple feelings on it. I love it so much and I’m afraid that a movie might ruin it and I don’t want that to happen. We went out on top. At the same time, to get to be on that show again, I would die for it. I would love to do it. I’m right there in the middle.”
