Chris Brown excludes the 'wealthy or rich' in new video

Chris Brown’s latest music video for his single “Don’t Think They Know” is without the flash of expensive rap videos of today, and that’s exactly how he wants it.

The rapper, who is currently under fire for allegedly assaulting a woman at a nightclub, explained his simplistic black and white music video, and how it is tailor-made for his target audience.

"Well, with the concept of the video, I wanted to bring a different aspect of it, not make it so Hollywood or wealthy or rich," Brown, known as ‘Breezy’, told MTV News .

"When I did the video I wanted to do kind of like the 'Boyz N the Hood' theme," Brown said. "Also bring an aspect of the side of the world that people never really talk about anymore. Gun violence or stuff that we deal with in our neighborhood or community that we could just stop."

The video, which features small bursts of red and blue, opens with Brown riding around with friends seemingly looking for mischief, when he makes the conscious decision to get out of the car and avoid trouble. “Don’t Think They Know” features the late singer Aaliyah in a posthumous performance, and ends with Brown shouting out to Michael “Lil Frogg” Reshard, a rapper who was shot and killed earlier this year.

Brown chose to shoot the cautionary video in Cedar Block, a region of Los Angeles infamous for gang violence.

"It's just a learning lesson for me and a stepping stone as far as me becoming a great entertainer and trying to bring the world back together," he said.
