Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings postpone concert after cancer diagnosis

Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have had to postpone their upcoming tour and album after Jones was diagnosed with Stage I bile-duct cancer.

According to USA Today, the R&B group planned to release Give the People What They Want on Aug. 6, but they have delayed its release and the tour to promote it.

Jones, 57, is expected to make a full recovery after surgery. The band said in a statement that she is “down, but not out!”

“Over the last few weeks I haven't felt good and I didn't know what was going on,” she wrote. “We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays. We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct. Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it's operable and curable!”

She also promised to keep fans up to date on her progress. “I'm looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!"

The lead single for Give The People What They Want premiered on NPR in May. The group is known for its mix of 1960s and ‘70s soul styles.
