'The Voice' Recap: Top six perform live

With only six vocalists left on The Voice, the competition is heating up. Tonight it was announced that only one artists would be eliminated following the performances, advancing five artists to the semi-finals. Tonight the vocalists got to sing a song of their choice and coaches’ choice.

First up to perform was Holly Tucker from Team Blake. Tucker performed Martina McBride’s, “When A God-Fearin’ Woman Get The Blues.” Usher started off the coaches’ comments by saying that the attitude in that song was strong but that he wanted to see more out of Tucker. Shakira said that this performance really showed that Tucker knows how to have fun and embrace performances. Levine said that it was overall a really great performance from Tucker. Shelton wanted to go on record saying that this was his favorite performance from Tucker so far and the performance was very strong and full of energy.

Following Tucker was Michelle Chamuel from Team Usher. Chamuel performed, “Somewhere Only We Know,” by Keane. Shakira said that this was going to be another great week for Chamuel and that as a coach Usher really compliments Chamuel. Levine said that Chamuel has really carved out her spot in this competition. Usher added that this performance showed a new side of Chamuel and depth in her vocal ability.

The Swon Brothers followed Chamuel and performed “Wagon Wheel,” which is currently on the charts thanks to Darius Rucker. Shakira started off the comments by saying that she is really inspired by country music including The Swon Brothers. Levine said that this was a really fun and great performance. Shelton said that it is often nerve racking to perform a song that is so popular but The Swon Brothers have a completely different and unique sound.

Sasha Allen from Team Shakira took the stage next performing Aretha Franklin’s, “Ain’t No Way.” Usher added that the performance was amazing. Coach Shakira was beaming with excitement and pride for Allen, saying that no one else in this competition could sing that song like Allen performed it.

Danielle Bradbery from Team Blake took the stage following Allen. Bradbery sang, “Shake The Sugar Tree.” Usher said that he could feel a few nerves from Bradbery but she has the type of confidence to keep rolling in this competition. Levine said that he wanted Bradbery from the start but he still wishes that Bradbery was on his team and that every performance is incredibly solid. Coach Shelton said that his job is easy with Bradbery because her voice is pure.

Amber Carrington from Team Adam took the stage next performing a classic rock ‘n’ roll song from Skid Row, “I’ll Remember You.” Shelton said that Carrington always does well and that he is glad to see something different from Carrington. Shakira said that she likes to see a variety in the show and she sees that from Carrington. Levine said that this performance was a risk and it worked.

The Swon Brothers took the stage for their finale time singing, “Okie From Muskogee.” Usher said that this song was a good time and it represented where the brothers are from. Levine said that it would be impossible not to enjoy that performance. Shelton said that this song choice was just right and really highlighted the brother’s roots and tradition.

Holly Tucker took the stage again to sing, Rascal Flatts, “My Wish.” Shakira said that it was an awesome performance and that Tucker keeps delivering consistent performances. Levine said that in Tucker’s two songs she really showed every side of who she is. Shelton said that Tucker is the most diverse artist that he has on Team Blake.

Michelle Chamuel took on a classic hit from Taylor Swift “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Swift walked in during the rehearsals and surprised Chamuel. Chamuel got the loudest and most enthusiastic reaction from the audiences so far. Levine started off the comments by saying that he really doesn’t need to say anything because the audience was screaming and speaking for him. Shelton said that Chamuel took the performance to another emotional level. Coach Usher said that Chamuel really connected with the song and the audience got to know more about her as a performer.

Carrington chose to perform for her song of choice, “Crazy,” by Patsy Cline. Shelton said that he loves that so many country songs are making a comeback and that Carrington did a beautiful performance. Shakira added that Carrington really did an airy beautiful vocal performance. Levine said that as a coach he would really have to speak up if this version was doing justice to the original and that Carrington brought a pure performance to that song.

Bradbery for her song of choice performed, “Little Bit Stronger,” by Sara Evans. Usher said that the performance was incredible and you could feel Bradbery getting ready to hit that final note. Levine said that Bradbery was good to go. Shelton said that Bradbery really has power in her voice and she has realized when the powerful moments are in performances and that moment is so special.

Closing the show was Allen who performed “Before He Cheats,” by Carrie Underwood. Shelton said that the performance was dramatic and powerful. Usher said he just met Sasha Fierce and that her performance was out of this world. Shakira said that the performance was hot Allen worked that stage like a star and the performance was fierce.

Tomorrow night the results will be announced and one vocalist will be sent home. Tomorrow night also will feature the return of Cassadee Pope.
