Tupac musical headed to Broadway?

If you're a fan of Tupac and Broadway, then this should be really exciting news for you. A musical based on the late rappers songs is being prepared for the 2013-2014 season.

The show, titled "Holler If Ya Hear Me", will be set in present day midwest. The Huffington Post writes that it will focus on two friends who "...struggle to reconcile the challenges and realities of their daily lives with their hopes, dreams and ambitions."

The show is currently in workshop, and hopes are that it will be ready by the next broadway season. It is to be directed by Kenny Leon, who previously directed the broadway hits "Fences" and "The Mountaintop". The book will be by Todd Kreidler, and Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento ("Wicked" and "Sweet Charity") will choreograph, who is just one of the many award-winners attached to the project. Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, will produce.

The artist was known for his raw lyrics that embodied the hardships of urban living. He was 25 when he passed in 1996.

What are the thoughts? Is this a horrible idea? Or could it be a show that brings the public (and funds) back to Broadway? Do you think the Tupac hologram will make an appearance?
