'Wilfred' Season 3, Episodes 3 & 4

‘Suspicion’

This episode focuses on Ryan’s relationship with his sister, Kristen. Kristen is adjusting to life as a single mother and looking for a legal guardian for her son. Her first choice is her father, naturally, and Ryan becomes determined to prove Kristen that he can be responsible. She decides to give him a chance. Wilfred began a friendship with the baby, but becomes angry and jealous when Ryan’s nephew begins a relationship with Bear, his ex-wife and stuffed animal.

The plot between Bear and Wilfred, and Ryan and Kristen parallel when Kristen drops the baby off at Ryan’s unexpectedly after the babysitter cancels before her date with Michael. Ryan distrusts Michael right away when he meets him as Kristen drops off her son. Wilfred only deepens that distrust and tells Ryan he believes Michael was with another woman right before he arrived.

Wilfred and Ryan go on a hunt to find out the truth—bringing along Ryan’s nephew, which gives Wilfred a chance to get the baby out of the picture.

Finding out the truth gets Ryan into some trouble and like every ‘Wilfred’ episode it ends in a life lesson.

The episode also hints that Ryan’s dad might finally make an appearance in this season.

‘Sincerity’

Another light-hearted episode after the heavy-hitting, questioning of Ryan’s sanity last week. This episode examines Ryan’s nonexistent love-life after his last girlfriend was committed to a mental institution in the last season. Ryan and Wilfred are relaxing in the park and making fun of “dog weirdo.” Defined as people who treat their dogs like children, dress them up and talk to them in baby voices. Ryan’s love-life might be finally starting to look up after he runs into Kim, a girl he had a crush on in high school. She’s starting her own dog-training business and Ryan lies about owning Wilfred to Kim.

Wilfred is annoyed by the lie and how Ryan treated him in the park, so he behaves badly at home so Jenna sends him to this class. Ryan offers to take Wilfred. The lies continue to stack up as the classes go on. Wilfred who was so confident that he’d be the coolest dog in school, becomes depressed when the other dogs in class cyberbully him on Facebook.

Ryan’s problems come to a head when he has a date with Kim—and her dog—in his house and he learns that it’s better to be liked for being himself.

‘Wilfred’ does not air next week due to the 4th of July.
