‘Community’ at Comic-Con: Dan Harmon wants show to continue past season 5, keeps movie hopes alive

The NBC cult comedy Community returned to Comic-Con on Sunday, with creator Dan Harmon and members of the cast in tow. This was the first big event for the show since Harmon was reinstated as showrunner after a lackluster season four without him. Harmon said that he hopes the show can live past season five and even brought up hopes for a movie.

Harmon, who was officially re-hired last month after the show got a fifth season order, told fans that they have to continue showing support for Community if they hope to see it stay alive, notes Deadline.

“I created a machine that eats pain and craps joy. The people in this room gave us five seasons. It’s about legacy and six seasons and a movie,” he said as the audience roared. “Nobody wants to not fail more than me...I don’t consider these the last 13. I will do everything I can to get us the sixth season.”

According to HitFix, the panel started with a video tribute to the fans as a man in a Lego Iron Man costume arrived on stage. Actors Jim Rash and Danny Pudi took the mask off, revealing Harmon underneath. Joel McHale was not there, appearing in a video as Harmon’s ‘father’ to introduce the panel. Chris Hardwick was the moderator.

Harmon also apologized again for criticizing season four. “I was talking about my own experience watching it and was talking about it in my own very petty, dirty world on my podcast,” he said, reports The Huffington Post. “I apologize to you guys who stood in line until four in the morning. if I hurt your feelings in any way with my comments ... A fan of Community does not have to be a fan of Dan Harmon and vice versa. I'm a creepy jerk.”

As expected, Donald Glover was one of the cast members not there. He doesn’t do promotional events for the show any longer and is only doing five episodes in season five to focus on his music career.

Community season five will start... eventually. NBC hasn’t scheduled it yet.
