‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: ‘Crash & Burn, Girl’

Pretty Little Liars latest episode “Crash & Burn, Girl” brings us a little closer in piecing together the identity of the infamous blonde in the Red Coat. With Hanna’s mom behind bars for Wilden’s murder Caleb vows that he will help find something to take the blame away from Ashley. Caleb teams up with Toby to find out who Red Coat is and ‘A’s’ connection in Wilden’s death. Toby still has Spencer keep his secret about his mother’s death, and doesn’t tell Caleb when he finds the paper about ‘the blonde girl.’

Toby and Caleb find a lead with meeting Nigel Wright. Toby had found a lighter at the lodge that burned down last season with a ‘N’ and ‘W’ bigger and it belonged to Nigel. Nigel told Caleb and Toby that he illegally lied about a suspicious flight plan after the lodge caught fire. As Toby and Caleb corner Nigel he drops Cece Drake’s name. Nigel flees the premises and Caleb takes his phone. Nigel tells ‘A’ or Red Coat that Caleb took his phone.

Spencer: Spencer was quiet and in the background in this episode. She still walking on thin ice with the girls as she keeps Toby’s secret from them. Spencer’s mom is Ashley’s lawyer. Spencer tells Hanna that she overheard her parents talking about the case and Ashley could be facing 20 years to life if convicted for Wilden’s murder. Toby and Caleb tell Spencer about the revelation that connects Cece to the fire. Spencer tells Toby that Cece told her that she was leaving Rosewood because she was afraid of Wilden. Did Cece kill Wilden?

Hanna: Hanna is trying to hold it together with her mom being behind bars. She warns Caleb to be careful on his perusal of ‘A.’ Hanna’s dad is absent throughout the entire episode as usual not giving her the support she needs. Hanna tries to keep her life as ‘normal’ as possible when she visits her mom in jail. She tells Ashley that she is going to be her date to an upcoming silent auction. Hanna is a strong and independent as she pays for the bills and upkeeps the house. With Spencer’s information Hanna tells her mom to take the plea bargain that will result in her being in jail for 20 years. Ashley tells Hanna that she’s innocent and that Wilden “…doesn’t get to die and leave me looking like a criminal!”

Aria: Aria is rescued again by Ezra and it’s still evident that the chemistry between them is still alive. With Connor’s car being vandalized all the fingers point to Mike. With Mike’s anger issues and past mistakes everyone is quick to jump to conclusions especially Principal Hackett. Mike is on the verge of being expelled until Ezra puts everything in prospective. Ezra convinces Principal Hackett to realize that if Mike’s finger prints weren’t on the car, or if there were no witness there is no way to blame him for the incident. In the end Aria goes over to Ezra’s apartment to give him a thank you note. It seems like Ezra will be coming back into the picture.

Emily: Emily steals Wilden’s apartment key from her mother’s desk. Spencer, Aria, and Emily go to Wilden’s apartment to find any clues that will take the spotlight away from Hanna’s mom. In their search they find a box of steaks from ‘A’ and a note that says that they are looking forward to a “little barbecue” The girls are being watched as they search Wilden’s apartment. Before Emily can put the key back her mom is suspended from work for losing the key. Emily goes downstairs with the key and just as she is walking a car comes full speed into their living room. Emily runs to get her mom to safety and we are left wondering who is in the car.

The episode ends with ‘A’ at a hardware store buying home improvement items and a gift card addressed to Emily. Maybe it’s time for the girls to come clean about ‘A’ with their parents.
