‘Saving Mr. Banks’ trailer gives a look at the making of ‘Mary Poppins’ (Video)

The first trailer for Disney’s highly anticipated Saving Mr. Banks has hit the web. It comes just a day after the first official photo was released.

Saving Mr. Banks centers on Walt Disney’s dedication to getting Mary Poppins made and convincing author P.L. Travers to let him do it. In the trailer, we see that it takes Travers a lot of convincing, since she wants complete control over the project and she’s worried Disney will make it one of his usual cartoons. But she eventually teaches Disney about the inspiration behind the Mary Poppins stories and that the nanny with a flying umbrella isn’t there to save children. She’s there to save their father, Mr. Banks.

On Wednesday, Disney let Time Magazine publish the first image from the film, showing Travers and Disney walking through Disneyland.

“She’s the most difficult person I’ve ever played,” Emma Thompson, who plays Travers, told Time. “She was a woman of quite eye-watering complexity and contradiction.” Thompson co-stars with Tom Hanks, who plays Disney.

Saving Mr. Banks opens in limited theaters on Dec. 13 and goes wide on Dec. 20. It looks like a must-see for any fan of the classic 1964 film that starred Julie Andrews in an Oscar-winning performance as Mary Poppins.
