‘Veronica Mars’ gets book deal to continue story

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has signed a two-book deal with Vintage Books to continue the story of the popular character of the TV series and soon-to-be movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the book series will pick up where the Veronica Mars movie, due to release in 2014, ends. The books will be an original mystery series following the grown-up Veronica Mars and other main characters from the series. The first book is timed to release after the premiere of the movie, slated for spring 2014.

Rob Thomas will co-write with Alloy Entertainment, a division of Warner Bros. "I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I'm thrilled that I'm going to get the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I've loved and missed," Thomas said about writing the book.

Thomas’ Kickstarter campaign for the Veronica Mars movie raised more that $5 million earlier this year, surpassing their goal of $2 million the first day.

The book series will stand-alone but Alloy hopes it will help promote the movie as well as lead to a potential movie sequel.
