Fantasia Barrino returns to Broadway

Fantasia Barrino is set to star in the Broadway musical After Midnight.

The music is about Duke Ellington’s time at the Cotton Club in Harlem Billboard reports.

Barrino was last on Broadway when she performed in The Color Purple in 2007, where she won a Broadway.com Audience Choice Award. After Midnight officially starts on Nov. 3 and Barrino will end on Feb. 9.

The show is directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle and musical direction by Wynton Marsalis. After Midnight was performed off-Broadway last year titled Cotton Club Parade and included songs such as “Stormy Weather” and “I’ve Got the World on a String.”

The season three American Idol winner is only the first of celebrity guest to start in the show according to The Hollywood Reporter. The full lineup has not been announced.

Fantasia’s debut album Free Yourself received four Grammy nominations and won a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “Bittersweet,” a single off her third album.
