Honey Boo Boo's mom speaks out against bullies of her weight

“Mama June” Shannon, mother of reality television’s favorite redneck beauty queen Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, is speaking out against those who bully she and her family for their weight and poor eating habits, saying she has no problems with her size.

Speaking exclusively to In Touch Shannon says she is constantly combatting critics of her weight since the success of her family’s TLC reality television show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo .

“Everybody has opinions, and everyone has haters,” Shannon says. “I think you have to be happy with yourself, even if you’re big. If you worry about trying to make other people happy, you won’t be happy yourself.”

Wise words from Shannon, who recently broke the news that she had lost over 100 pounds, and quickly gained some of it back. The mother of four girls also admitted that she and her daughters have lost weight since they began filming the show, but the weight-loss is not a result of dieting.

“We eat what we like, we always did,” Shannon, 33, said. "The show has just made me a lot more active.”

The Toddlers & Tiaras alum says she isn’t trying to keep up with what’s trendy in the kitchen either, opting to continue to serve the fatty and flavorful dishes her family loves, like “sketti,” a combination of spaghetti, ketchup, and butter.

“I’m not trying to cook whatever’s cool,” she says. “I cook what my family wants me to cook!”

According to The Daily Mail , Shannon says that fan favorite daughter Alana is slowly but surely “growing up and losing her baby fat.”

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo airs on TLC on July 17.
