Jay Z’s ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ earns second week at No. 1 on Billboard

Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail earned a second week at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart, beating the new album from singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles.

Magna Carta debuted on the chart last week with 527,000 copies sold, earning the second-best debut week of 2013, behind Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience. For its second week, Nielsen SoundScan numbers show that ,i.Holy Grail sold 129,000 copies, notes Billboard.

While that’s a huge 76 percent drop, it means that Magna Carta is the first rap album to spend its first two weeks at the top of the chart since Lil Wayne’s 2011 release Tha Carter IV.

Bareilles released The Blessed Unrest this past week, which debuted at the No. 2 slot with only 68,000 copies. Her last release was 2010’s Kaleidoscope Heart, which began with 90,000 copies and debuted at No. 1.

Meanwhile, Kidz Bop 24 held the No. 3 slot with 62,000 copies sold. The series has never had a No. 1 release, but there have been 17 Kidz Bop albums to reach the Top 10.

Rapper Ace Hood’s new release Trials & Tribulation sold 34,000 copies, which was good enough for No. 4. That’s a sizeable jump from 2011’s Blood Sweat Tears, which only sold 26,000 in its first week.

The rest of the Top 10 includes Florida Georgia Line’s Here’s To The Good Times (31,000); Imagine Dragons’ Night Visions (28,000); J. Cole’s Born Sinner (27,000); Disney’s Teen Beach Movie soundtrack (25,000); The 20/20 Experience (24,000) and Cody Simpson’s Surfers Paradise (24,000).

The Hot Digital Songs chart still looks mostly the same, with Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” selling another 340,000 downloads. Miley Cyrus came in at No. 2 with 208,000 downloads for “We Can’t Stop.”
