Mary Alouette’s ‘The Lark’ EP

The Lark is the second EP from the eccentric singer, songwriter gypsy jazz guitarist and beat producer Mary Alouette. The EP has five vivacious tracks that showcase Alouette’s sultry voice and unique sound of gypsy jazz and electric pop.

About the EP Alouette told KickStarter, “Like my debut EP, Midas, my second mini album is a self-produced work flush with heart, intensity, and beauty. It is an attempt to distill the most unfathomable things into a lush and compelling sound. I've been working on this EP, Lark, for a year now.”

Alouette has gained inspiration from guitarist Django Reinh rhythmic beats and riveting guitar solos. She mirrors that intensity through her music with her uses of heavy electric drumbeats and blazing upright bass and gypsy guitar.

The EP opens with the single “Angel” which is a soothing and relaxing track with the melding of various instruments and Alouette’s harmonic vocals. The drumbeat is electrifying and will have you swaying your hips to the beat. The consistent sound of clapping and twists of electronica sound brings a unique vibe to the single.

The next song “Just You” is the catchiest single on the EP. It’s an instant favorite with the sweet chorus and electric pop sound. The love song intensifies in sound with the opening of the eloquence of the gypsy guitar and heavily induced drum beat. In the last single “Charlie” there is more of an electronica sound than jazz. It zooms in and out between fast and slow tempo.

The Lark is not your typical jazz album with its funky and fresh sound that coincide flawlessly with Alouette’s vocals. It is an EP worth listening to and peaks your interest to follow Alouette’s musical work. Below is the single “Angel” let us know what you think of this emerging artist.
