Michigan woman's attempt to hire a hitman to kill her husband caught on video (Video)

A Michigan woman has pleaded guilty to soliciting the murder of her husband after meeting with an undercover police officer who videotaped the meetings.

Julia Charlene Merfeld, 20, met with the undercover detective who posed as a hired hit-man where she explained that divorcing her husband would be “easier than divorcing him,” The Associated Press reports.
Merfeld began her task into having her husband killed in April, promising to pay $50,000. She is said to have wanted him dead to avoid judgment by her family, breaking his heart and to inherit his $400,000 insurance policy.

In the video Merfeld explains that she has been thinking about the killing for quite some time. Her plan unraveled when one of her coworkers tipped off police.
“When I first decided to do this … it’s not that we weren’t getting along,” she explains. “But … terrible as it sounds, it was easier than divorcing him.”

According to MLive, Merfeld’s 27-year-old husband asked a judge that she not get any jail time. She is however expected to serve 6 years in prison.

She is said to have met with the undercover officer twice, on April 9 & 10 where she calmly explains how she would like the hit to happen. Merfeld states that she can drop the couple’s two children off at a babysitter, noting that she does not want to be the one to find the body so she can act “as shocked as possible” when she first speaks to police.

Merfeld was arrested shortly after her second meeting. The video conversations can be seen in the videos below:
