North Carolina furniture company stands behind Paula Deen Home Collection, executive defends her in letter

A North Carolina furniture company has announced they will stand behind Paula Deen following her nearly empire-threatening racism scandal.

Universal Furniture International, who fronts Deen’s furniture line, the Paula Deen Home Collection.

On Wednesday, Jeff Scheffer, the top executive at Universal, wrote in a letter, "We feel terrible for Paula. The Paula we know - and the one I believe you have gotten to know - is not the same person as the one being portrayed in the media," Burlington Times Now reports.

Scheffer also defended her, even after being dropped by the Food Network and various other companies, "We have observed her as being kind and one who treats those around her with respect. Yes, she has acknowledged saying some hurtful things but she has also apologized, and we accept that.”

New allegations from Deen’s longtime employee, Dora Charles, have surfaced. She told the New York Times Deen called her the ‘black cook’ and that she always paid her black staffers less than white staffers among other shocking claims.
