SSS: Simple Snack Sympathique

At 71 Rue Saint-Paul in Quebec is SSS, a restaurant that caught our attention.

SSS stands for Simple Snack Sympathique. Founded in 2009, it is the younger sibling to another Quebec restaurant, TOAST!, located nearby in the Old-Port.

SSS has two sections with distinct personalities to help set the tone for your evening. You enter through the lounge area, which offers high tables and upbeat music. It's a great place for a cocktail, or to enjoy some offerings from the snack menu. The restaurant section has a more cozy atmosphere with a real working fireplace to add romance to your dinner.

As you can guess from SSS's name, the menu offers a lot of appetizer-sized snacks. You can get more than a quick bite, though, as SSS offers a complete menu of classic French food but with a cool and modern twist.

The beef tartar got a spicy kick from integrated chorizo and parmesan. Poutin, the staple of any Quebec menu, featured pulled pork that gave the standard fries and cheese curds an interesting and hearty dimension.

The wine list was impressive and features SSS's private collection of imports from Europe and South America, as well some local sparkling wines.

Every plate was made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and you couldn't help but appreciate the care that went into the planning and presentation. The staff provided excellent service and were very attentive.

SSS is open for lunch and dinner, and even offers a late night snack menu until midnight.
