Top 10 Acts: ‘America’s Got Talent’ Season 8 Episode 9

This was the episode where the acts, as well as the viewers, get their hopes and dreams crushed as they fail to make it to the live shows, often for unexplainable reasons.

It was a nerve-wracking night, and a lot of my favorites didn’t make it through. In a few confusing situations, they even received positive feedback from the judges after their performances, only to lose out to what seemed like less deserving candidates. That’s one of my biggest issues with the Las Vegas rounds—there is no explanation on the judges’ part as to who they chose and why, and it often leads to confusion among the viewers and the acts. Still, we can’t change what has already happened, so I’m just going to move on to talk about the top ten acts from the last night of Las Vegas week. Who were you sad to see get sent home? Or do you agree with the judge’s decisions? Weigh in in the comments section below!

10. Aaralyn and Izzy

I think that even amidst the huge number of danger acts this year, this act is one of the scariest. While I doubt they’ll make it past the first round of the live shows, they’re definitely fun to watch.

9. Leonne Etienne and Romy Low

I thought their trick was mostly just showmanship, but I think that they do have potential. It was a bit mean for Romy to throw fellow magician Ariann under the bus like that, but Howard asked, and she was truthful with her answer.

8. Travis Pratt

I feel like he definitely deserved to make it through to the live shows, but the judges only wanted to keep one single opera singer, which I thought was sad. Still, he shows a lot of talent, and I hope that he doesn’t give up trying.

7. Paul Thomas Mitchell

I think it’s very odd that he didn’t make it through, considering that after his performance it seemed as though the judges really liked him. I’m sad that I won’t be able to see him perform again— he seems like a young Adam Levine, and we can always use more attractive men with beautiful voices in the world.

6. Chloe Channell

I thought she sang very well, but I don’t think that she deserved it over some of her competition (see number five).

5. Genesis Nava

The kids singing category is extremely competitive this year. Unlike in past seasons, there don’t seem to be any kids who are there because they’re cute—some these kids are here because they can sing better than most of the adults in this competition. I felt that Genesis sang like an adult, and that’s why I think she deserved to make it through over Chloe. I don’t know how or why the judges made their decision, and I don’t understand it.

4. Marty Brown

I think it was Travis who said, “He makes me like country music,” and I agree. He’s the type of person who I want to watch, just because he seems like he is so grateful to be here.

3. Ciana Pelekai

I thought Genesis set the bar very high, and then Ciana came onstage. She carried herself like someone much older, and she had good stage presence to go along with her powerhouse voice.

2. Jonathan Allen

I want to play with his hair. On a different note, he also sang extremely well, and as much as I like Travis, I don’t blame the judges for picking Jonathan over him.

1. Collins Key

He has such small scale magic that I don’t think it would work on a Vegas stage, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not rooting for him. I really do think he could be the teenage heartthrob of magic. It made me so happy that he made it through, especially after I’d been burned by the judges on a few of my favorites already.
