In newsstands this month, you’ll see many celebrities from Lauren Conrad and Shakira to Beyonce splashed across the covers of the magazines. If you look in each, you’ll notice it’s not just about talent anymore. It’s about what they wear and the effect they’ve had on their fans. While many are constantly trying to better their acting or singing careers, or establish a statement of themselves as individuals, they have also made careers in the fashion world by collaborating with brands, starting clothing lines, and setting trends. Sure many celebrities have make-up and wardrobe stylists, but at the end of the day it’s their choice of what they want to wear. What makes a celebrity a trendsetter is when they’re not afraid to take a risk. They’re always up for trying on something new and original. They own what they wear and make it look flawless. Being a fashionista myself, I try to stay on top of trends, taking note of the style in clothes people wear, and in the past few months I’ve noticed only a few celebrities making an impact in the fashion world. The celebrities mentioned here have sets trends worthy of our recognition.
10. Jennifer Lopez
The renowned actress, singer, fashion entrepreneur, and entertainer takes our number 10 spot because she has never failed to impress. When Ms. Lopez hits a red carpet event, she knows exactly what she’s doing by the outfit she chooses to wear. No matter what, she always has people talking. Every outfit is form-fitting to show off her curves. The 43-year-old looks flawless in almost anything, and shows that no matter what your age, you can look sexy and sultry too! Many take style tips from her to emulate her look and wardrobe.
9. Michelle Obama
The first lady evokes elegance with her style. She is probably one of the most powerful trendsetters in the fashion world, and has become a fashion icon. Her look is smart and chic. Her style is never too over-the-top, and the first lady is never afraid to take a risk. She reminds people that real, hard-working women can look classy and fabulous. She is often known for her choice of cardigans, instead of blazers, and her selection of dresses. She takes something simple and gives it the “wow factor” when she adds on her accessories. It’s always about detail with the first lady, and the colorful choices in her wardrobe collection.
8. Kate Middleton
The duchesses’ style is similar to that of the first lady. Her choice of attire has spiked sales of dresses she’s worn and that have made her and international style icon. The fact that she doesn’t wear high name brands and is more affordable with her clothing options is exactly what makes her a trendsetter today. You never see her wear something popularized by a magazine or other celebrity. She has her own look which many people have chosen to emulate, and it is easy for them to do so because of the affordable options.
7. Angelina Jolie
You can’t deny that Angelina Jolie is a trendsetter. Anything she is seen wearing, the next day people flock to stores to get dresses that mimic her style. From the maxi dress to her taste in jewelry, or half-cut dresses that show a little leg, Jolie always exudes sophistication on the red carpet. Her unique style is copied by women all over the globe. She didn’t fail to impress this red carpet season either!
6. Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria takes our number six spot as a thrifty trendsetter. No doubt she impresses on the red carpet. Her choice of clothing is often emulated by women everywhere. She has the ability to make “laidback” look sexy. She always manages to look graceful in anything she wears.
Rihanna is a trendsetter who is known to get people talking with her outfits. Her style has developed incredibly throughout the years. One trend that she popularized was tying a bandana in her hair with a bow. Many girls started to copy that look after she was seen wearing it several times. Her style is somewhat unconventional. It’s all about her hairdo, nails, and accessories that really pull together whatever outfit she’s wearing.
4. Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner
These sisters have come a long way since living under the shadow of their Kardashian sisters. Both have been taking over the model world and have been setting incredible trends for young adults all over world. They, too, impress on the red carpet. The girls started a “beanie trend” and stand out with their outfit choices. Their age- appropriate looks are easy to emulate and make them a favorite in the fashion world.
3. Beyonce and Jay-Z
America’s power couple has taken the fashion and hip-hop world by storm. No doubt that Beyonce is one the biggest superstars and trendsetters of all time, but her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, has also taken the fashion world under his wing. Together, they are unstoppable. Jay-Z is known for pairing a Yankee hat, white tee, and sunglasses together. Many guys have copied this look. But Jay-Z also cleans up nicely when it comes to red carpet for a classier look.
Beyonce never ceases to impress wherever she goes. She is undeniably a showstopper, no matter what she wears. Having just released a line for H&M, she is known for her high pumps, sparkly clothing, and form-fitting outfits.
2. Lauren Conrad
The reality star, fashion designer, and author is often looked past when it comes to the top trendsetters list. However, she is making ours because of her red-carpet choices, and day-to-day looks, that have been emulated by fans across the globe. Her style is classy, laid-back, and fun. The fashion designer has partnered up with Kohl’s for a successful clothing line, which has been popularized through fans. Her line emulates her style. Although her TV days are over, Conrad is often still seen gracing the covers of magazines because she has become a style icon among teens and young adults.
1. Miley Cyrus
Miley has gone through a drastic personality change that has completely changed up her wardrobe. We all used to know the teen sensation as the cookie-cutter, sweet and innocent girl. But as she has grown, she has come into her own. Regardless of the changes, she has never fallen short of impressing with her outfits. However, her punk-rock look these days has started many trends. From the racer-back crop top she wore in her “We Can’t Stop” music video to her choice of sunglasses, many people are choosing to copy the singer’s style. She always stands out on the red carpet and knows exactly what she’s doing when it comes to dressing up.
