Woody Allen praises Louis C.K., would love to co-star in a movie with him

Louis C.K. is one of the most acclaimed stand-up comics today and Woody Allen is one of the most awarded comedy directors of all time. The two are finally working together with Blue Jasmine and don’t expect it to be their last collaboration. Allen revealed that he is impressed with C.K.’s work and would love to oc-star in a movie with him.

C.K. has a role in Blue Jasmine, which stars Cate Blanchett and opens on July 26. Allen wrote and directed the film, but decided against giving himself a role. He said in an interview with The New York Times that it will be different the next time they collaborate.

Allen said that he didn’t know of C.K.’s work until he began looking at Bobby Cannavale, who also has a role in Blue Jasmine. Cannavale is in a C.K. short film, which Allen saw. “And I said but who’s that guy with him? He’s wonderful,” Allen said. He originally considered C.K. for a part that went to Andrew Dice Clay and found another role in the film for C.K.

“I’d love to do a movie with him and me, a comedy,” Allen added. “I’m looking for some idea that would work, for the two of us to do. Of course I hope that people aren’t disappointed that I don’t act with him [in Blue Jasmine], and he doesn’t have a commensurately comic part with his talent. But some day, I will get something that we could do together, because I do think it would be fun. I’m such a great fan of his.”

Also in the interview, Allen admitted that he is now interested in re-starting his stand-up career after working with C.K. and Clay. He also recently saw 85-year-old Mort Stahl perform, which got him thinking.

“Since I saw [Stahl], I’ve just been toying with the idea. I would love to see if I could. Just getting together an hour of stuff to talk about would be a lot of work,” he said.

Allen is currently working on his 2014 film with Colin Firth and Emma Stone.
