'Despicable Me 2' Film Review

If you like animated movies, Despicable Me 2 is for you. Steve Carell is back as Gru, the villain turned loving adoptive parent of three little girls in this minion filled sequel.

Since leaving his life of stealing treasured objects, such as the moon, behind from the first movie, Gru has settled in to a happy life with his new family in their dark evil house planted in the middle of suburbia.

This time around, Gru gets Lucy Wilde, played by Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), as a sidekick after joining the Anti Villian League. The two make a refreshing and unlikely duo as they seek to solve crimes, primarily discovering who in the mall community has access to a deadly potion that could ruin humanity.

They open a pretend store in a mall to spy on other shop keepers and figure out it’s the Mexican restaurant owner, death faking villain called El Macho. El Macho has kidnapped what seems like all 3 million of Gru’s minions, the majority of which are named Dave and Tim, and used the potion to turn them all from cute little yellow squeaking beings into evil grunting purple monsters.

Gru also goes on a blind date with what could be considered a real housewife of cartoon-land. Of course he sees Lucy, unknowingly his true love, while on the date with this unruly woman. Lucy feels the same way so obviously the only solution is to shoot her with a moose tranquilizer and the rest is history for the happy couple.

The entire movie is full of quirky comedy and impressive animation. The minions, who spend most of the movie doing random activities, never get old and the daughters are adorable. It’s a feel good movie that people of all ages can enjoy.
