Donald Trump responds to Trump University lawsuit, calls NY attorney general ‘political hack’

Over the weekend, news broke that Donald Trump was being sued by the State of New York over his Trump University, claiming that the entire institution is a sham. In typical Trump fashion, the business mogul took to Twitter to slam New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman and also had strong words for him on Fox & Friends.

As we previously reported, Trump is being sued for $40 million by the state, which hopes to reimburse many of the 5,000 people who enrolled in the university under the promise that they would learn how to succeed in real estate. Sneiderman said that they paid as much as $35,000 for a seminar.

According to the NY Times, Schneiderman said that advertisements with Trump included “false promises” that convinced people “to spend tens of thousands of dollars they couldn’t afford for lessons they never got.”

Trump’s lawyers denied the allegations and then Trump himself took to Twitter Sunday to slam the suit as “political.” He called Schneiderman “lightweight” and linked the suit to Schneiderman’s meeting with President Obama last week.

According to Politico, Trump went on Fox News’ Fox & Friends this morning to again criticize Schneiderman. “He sits up in my office asking me for campaign contributions, he’s been there numerous times. He’s a political hack. He figures by going after Trump, he can get some publicity, which he will get, but we’ll try and make it uncomfortable as possible,” Trump said.

Trump also suggested that this is another scandal for Obama. “They obviously did it very quickly, but probably Obama — maybe this is a mini IRS. Maybe we have to get the Tea Party after these people because this could very well be a mini IRS,” he told Fox.

But Schneiderman denied that. “The president and I had much more important stuff to talk about than Donald Trump. [The president] was giving a speech about education in Syracuse about affordability. I’ve never discussed Donald Trump with the president,” he said in a statement. “He is a showman. He doesn’t seem to think there is any such thing as a bad headline.”
