George Lucas and Mellody Hobson welcome baby girl via surrogate

George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson are the proud parents of a new baby girl.

The Huffington Post reported this morning that the Star Wars creator and Hobson, the president of Ariel Investments, welcomed Everest Hobson Lucas on Friday, Aug. 9. She was born via surrogate and is the first biological child for both of them.

However, Lucas does have three adopted children, Amanda, 32; Katie, 25; and Jett, 20.

Hobson and Lucas, who had been dating since 2006, announced their engagement in January, just after Lucas sold his company, Lucasfilm, to Disney for $4.05 billion in October 2012. The couple officially tied the knot in June at the Skywalker Ranch in California.

Hobson, 44, is also a financial contributor to CBS News and is also in the movie business as the chairman of Dreamworks Animation.

Lucas has retired from big-budget moviemaking, handing over the Star Wars franchise to Disney, new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J. Abrams. A new Star Wars film is planned for summer 2015.
