Jimmy Fallon explains fertility struggles on 'Today' show (Video)

Jimmy Fallon surprised viewers when he admitted that he and wife Nancy welcomed their adorable daughter Winnie Rose via surrogate. The late night host opened up their struggles trying to conceive during an interview with Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

Fallon explained that he and his wife tried to start their family five years ago without success. “We've tried a bunch of things," he explained. "Anyone who's tried will know, it's just awful.”

Continuing, Fallon explained that they had previously tried getting pregnant via a surrogate but failed to find success. "We tried before, we told people and then it didn't happen," he said. "And it's just really depressing. It's really hard on everybody."

Baby Winnie Rose was born July 22, the same day as the royal baby. The proud new father explained that his daughter’s name did not come from the honey-loving cartoon character, Winnie-the-Pooh, but rather a representation to where he proposed to Nancy.

"It's not Winnie-the-Pooh at all … though I do love Winnie-the-Pooh," he said. “My wife and I got engaged in New Hampshire at this lake house that her family's had forever, and it's on Lake Winnipesaukee. And so we went there every summer as we were dating."

Also in his interview, Fallon offered words of advice to couple’s are still trying to conceive. "I know people have tried much longer (than we have), but if there's anyone out there who is trying and they're just losing hope … just hang in there," he insisted. "Try every avenue; try anything you can do, 'cause you'll get there. You'll end up with a family, and it's so worth it. It is the most 'worth it' thing."
