Kym Johnson leaving 'Dancing with the Stars' for Season 17, will pursue 'amazing work opportunity' in Australia

Professional dancer, Kym Johnson, has announced she will not be returning to ABC’s Dancing with the Stars for Season 17 after fourteen seasons on the show.

She isn’t leaving the show for good, however, as she has just announced she will be taking a season off.
"I will be taking the next season off from DWTS USA, so that I may accept an amazing work opportunity back home in Australia," she told Us Weekly.

"I am excited, nervous and humbled by this chance and look forward to sharing more about it with you soon,” she added, not revealing what said opportunity is.

Johnson has won the coveted mirror ball trophy twice so far; in 2009 (Season 9) with Donny Osmond and in 2011 (Season 12) with NFL star Hines Ward.

The dancer joined the U.S. version of the show back in 2006 after starting out on the Australian version in 2004.

Huffington Post notes Johnson’s departure from the show next season won’t be the only shake-up, as ABC president Paul Lee hinted at the Television Critics Association Summer press tour recently that Maksim Chmerkovskiy could return.

The judges panel could also be shaken up, and the network has downsized the show, combining the prior twice a week airings into one one-hour show.
