Robin Thicke’s mother is defending her son over ‘Blurred Lines,’ too

Since Robin Thicke’s song “Blurred Lines” was released, the signer has had to comment on the song’s controversial lyrics without much support outside of his fans. However, he now has his parents backing him up. After Growing Pains star Alan Thicke commented on the track, his mother, Gloria Loring is also laughing off the track.

Loring, herself a singer/songwriter, spoke with WHOA! at the Women in Woodstock conference and defended her son, even though “Blurred Lines” has been perceived as sexist. The track has also generated buzz for its explicit video, which features Thicke, T.I. And Pharrell Williams dancing with topless models.

Lorting said that the track is supposed to be funny and she likes his sense of humor. “I have known, of course, for many years how playful my son is,” she said. “He loves to be a little naughty."

According to USA Today, she added that the singers in the video are all “happily” married with children and probably intended to make fun of themselves with the video. “They were poking fun at how guys look at young girls and go, 'Oh, she wants me,'” she said.

She also noted that the video was directed by Diane Martel, a woman. “You gotta blame the girl director for a lot of that stuff ... I find it very funny,” she said.

Thicke's father and Loring's ex-husband Alan said earlier this week during an interview with People that he enjoyed the song and said he gets a “good laugh by introducing myself as 'Robin Thicke's father.'”

“I've related to it, and understood it, and was able to feel it, up until only the last couple of weeks,” he told the magazine. “He has now projected himself into a stratosphere, into another level, having raised the bar, the family brand, to unimaginable heights."
