Attack in historic Pakistani church leaves 78 dead

In what is being deemed as the deadliest attack in Pakistan’s Christian community, it is being reported that a pair of suicide bombers attacked All Saints Church in Peshawar, Pakistan, which left 141 wounded and 78 dead as they were leaving the Sunday morning sermon to attend a picnic in front of the historic church.

According to breaking news reports from NPR, the Jundullah Arm , a fraction of the Pakistani Taliban, is claiming responsibility for the bombers actions. They are currently stating that they will continue attacks on non-Muslim peoples until the United States stops their drone attacks in the region.

A Senior Official of the local bomb disposal unit, Shafqat Malik, has released statements regarding the events, says the New York Times. He officially reported that “each bomber carried six kilograms of explosives,” which were simultaneously detonated.

This is not the first instance of violence from the Jundullah, who have also been noted for attacking Shiite Muslims.

This instance just further complicates political strain in the region. Pakistani officials do not condone drone attacks – citing it as a violation of their sovereignty, yet they simultaneously support the strikes when the Pakistani Taliban militants are the target.
