Chris Hemsworth dropped 30 pounds for 'Rush,' not into doing nude scenes

Losing weight for a movie role seems to be all the rage lately, as Chris Hemsworth joins Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey as someone who lost a significant amount of weight for their art.

Hemsworth admitted to Today that he lost 30 pounds to play James Hunt in Rush, Huffington Post reports.

The Thor actor said, "The first thing Ron [Howard] said to me was, 'I don't know if Thor's going to fit into a race car.'" The actor had to go from 215 to 185 to fit into the F1 car.

Hollywood Life notes that the actor said the weight loss "was pretty uncomfortable."

To lose the weight, Hemsworth said he "didn't eat much and ran a lot! It was a pretty moody existence."

Rush is about the true story of the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda (played by Daniel Bruhl) during the 1976 season, MTV reports.

The hunky actor also wasn't thrilled about going nude in the film and won't be doing anymore. "I had enough trouble and fear and anxiety getting the backside out let alone - no it won't be out there."

Hemsworth's anxiety probably wasn't helped by how his nude scenes were treated. Co-star Olivia Wilde said, "With women taking off their clothes, everyone's polite. It's a closed set. Everyone's like, 'Are you okay?' When he did it was like, 'Chris, off!'"

Rush opens in theaters Sept. 27.
