'Dancing with the Stars' backstory controversy

Dancing with the Stars has been making headlines about the controversial back-stories involving season 17 contestants.

No one is safe from controversy, in fact many of the contestants in the upcoming season know all about controversy.

Nicole "Snookie" Polizzi, best known for the MTV's Jersey Shore, is normally making headlines for her drunken and wild behavior. Now the new mom has been in the news for her recent 50 pound weight-loss.

Mary Tyler Moore Show actress Valerie Harper recently announced that she had terminal cancer. After turning down previous requests, Harper decided to join this season stars, using the opportunity to get the exercise her doctors recommend.

King of Queens star Leah Remini has been making headlines ever since she was laid off from The Talk. Her exit from the church of Scientology is her most recent controversy.

In 2007, Bill Nye filed for a restraining order against his ex-fiancee. According to USA Today Nye claimed that she tried to poison him by spraying his vegetable garden with some sort of solvent.

Jack Osbourne was known for his wild antics on MTV's The Osbournes. Since then he has matured and opened up about his battle with multiple sclerosis as well as his wife's miscarriage.

Former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson had some controversy in May when he was involved in an incident involving Justin Bieber and his unsafe driving.

Recent controversy also broke out when critics hammered Elizabeth Berkley and Disney star Corbin Bleu for having an unfair advantage due to their dancing background.

Whether it is for ratings, or just a coincidence that most of these celebrities are making headlines is not known, but this will definetly be an exciting season.

Dancing with the stars premiers on ABC Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m.
