Elvis Costello and Questlove talk new album 'Wise Up Ghost,' reviews fairly positive

Elvis Costello and Questlove recently talked about their new collaboration album Wise Up Ghost between Costello and The Roots which was released in stores Tuesday.

The idea for a collab first sprouted as the "Watching the Detectives" singer visited Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for numerous appearances, Billboard notes from the interview.

Questlove said they realized the hip-hop group and singer had chemistry and decided to record an album together, though quietly without informing their record labels of their plans.

"We recorded this in our closet of a dressing room after 'Fallon' shows."

The lyrics are from Costello's old notebooks mixed with new ideas. "I had verses from songs written 20 to 30 years apart that had the same theme or spoke to one another and that accumulated inside the frame of the new piece of music and told a new story," Costello says.

The reviews of the collaboration between the acclaimed band and iconic singer have been mostly positive. New York Daily News's Jim Farber says the album "contains some of the most fleshy and smart work of either act's career. It's a perfect nexus of talent."

Chicago Tribunes's Greg Kot gave the album three stars out of four, but calls the album an "uneasy alliance," and the album's misfires "feel like experiments that fell short,"
