Jon Stewart’s ‘Daily Show’ return brings in big ratings

Fans may have been pleased by John Oliver’s performance on The Daily Show this summer, but there’s nothing like having Jon Stewart back hosting the show. Stewart returned on Tuesday with plenty of topics to cover and his fans tuned in.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Stewart’s return drew 2.02 million total viewers, a 24 percent jump over the average viewership for Stewart’s previous 2013 episodes.

When you break it down by demographics, Tuesday’s episode drew 1.04 million viewers in the 18-49 demo for a 1.0 rating. That was up 15 percent over the average. In the 18-34 demo, the show drew 637,613 viewers, up 22 percent.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that viewers did tune in for Oliver. During his run, the show averaged 1.299 million viewers.
